Caminando entre sueños, el sendero hacia la autocreencia
Desafió las expectativas y se convirtió en la prueba viviente de que todo es posible.
Jhoanna nació en la provincia de Morona Santiago, Ecuador. Es madre de 2 hijos, valiente, de carácter fuerte, apasionada por la vida y enamorada de su tierra natal. Desde una corta edad ha sido guerrera. Ha sido una persona que fomenta la gratitud con actitud, destacando lo positivo en todas las circunstancias y comprometida en todo.
Resaltó en sus estudios, lo que le permitió trabajar en su ciudad Morona como reportera y editora en la sección de turismo. Gracias a su trabajo exploró cada rincón mágico de su tierra. Recuerda con emoción y con satisfacción haber podido lograr que todos los televidentes y sobre todo sus hijos vivieran esas experiencias de visitar asombrosos lugares escondidos.
“Realmente vale la pena vivir en esa tierra tan maravillosa. Es un lugar para disfrutar. Realmente amo mi gran ciudad”, expresó.
Sin embargo, a pesar de su éxito profesional, la pandemia llegó, afectando no solo a los habitantes de su ciudad, si no también el canal de televisión donde trabajaba. Su programa fue suspendido. A pesar de este tope en el camino, Jhoanna con perseverancia consiguió trabajar en una estación de radio programando música y utilizó este momento en su vida para reinventarse.
“Quería hacer algo más, así que un día me levanté inquieta y le dije a mi familia que quería hacer un curso de belleza. Siempre he sido una persona curiosa. No lo pensé tanto, y me incorporé al mundo de la belleza tomando un curso de uñas”, relata Jhoanna.
Poco a poco, esto que antes era sólo curiosidad, se convirtió en una pasión.
“Sinceramente lo que haces con tus manos siempre será una obra de arte”, agrega.
Aunque Jhoanna se sumergió en este nuevo proyecto, no sería en Morona donde esta nueva labor daría los frutos necesarios para cubrir los gastos de su hogar. Ella, una mamá con sueños de darle un buen futuro a sus hijos, vio en los Estados Unidos un futuro mejor.
Su Corazón se dividió en dos pero mantuvo la luz de la esperanza
En diciembre del 2022, Jhoanna tomó la decisión más difícil de su vida cuando decidió emigrar a los Estados Unidos dejando atrás a sus hijos con su madre y sus hermanas que los cuidarian con amor y dedicación.
Emprendió un viaje hacia lo desconocido. Traía consigo una maleta llena de sueños y esperanzas y estaba dispuesta a enfrentar cualquier obstáculo que se interpusiera en su camino. Se encontró con desafíos que pusieron a prueba su valentía.
“Crucé ríos, montañas, desiertos, hubo días lluviosos, días fríos pero esto me permitió descubrir habilidades en mí misma que nunca imaginé tener”.
Cada experiencia fue un paso más hacia su autocreencia y hacia la realización de sus sueños. Cada paso que daba, cada kilómetro que dejaba atrás, era un recordatorio constante del amor inmenso que sentía por sus hijos y de la promesa que se hizo a sí misma: trabajar incansablemente para brindarles un futuro mejor.
Un día en esa travesía se le presentó algo más grande, algo que le cambiaría la vida. Al llegar a Texas, cayó de un muro de aproximadamente 9 metros de altura, y una noticia inesperada le cambió la vida. Según un médico, no podría volver a caminar.
Sin embargo, a pesar de los obstáculos y de las limitaciones físicas, Jhoanna no se rindió. Pronto después de su caída y su operación inicial en Texas, viajó para encontrarse con su hermana y con su apoyo llegó a Danbury, CT. Aquí, Jhoanna se aferró a su determinación y comenzó su proceso de rehabilitación, trabajando arduamente para recuperar la movilidad. Cada ejercicio y cada terapia, era un paso más hacia su independencia y hacia el cumplimiento de sus sueños.
Logró la recuperación total de sus piernas y espalda y con ello mantenerse de pie y empezar a caminar. Los doctores y su familia se encontraban asombrados por el gran progreso de su estado de salud.
“Las recomendaciones de los médicos fueron primordiales, pero el apoyo de la familia lo es todo, son parte del motor de mi vida que me inspiraron para continuar y no desfallecer”.
Va escribiendo una historia llena de éxito y felicidad en este nuevo capítulo de su vida.
Al verla mejorada de salud, fueron sus hermanos quienes la alientan para que retome su pasión por el arte de las uñas.
Su hermana mayor que siempre ha sido un gran soporte en todo momento, le habló sobre Grameen America como una organización que brinda apoyo a mujeres emprendedoras que necesitan capital para materializar sus sueños.
Con el objetivo de iniciar su propio negocio, Jhoanna decidió apostar en sí misma y se convirtió en miembro de Grameen America. Con el micro préstamo que le otorgaron, compró los implementos necesarios y pudo continuar su capacitación. Jhoanna se sumergió en otro mundo fascinante: el mundo de las pestañas. Mientras más aprendía, más descubría la grandeza del mundo de la belleza.
“A través de mi arte, hoy resalto la belleza que todos llevamos dentro, expandiendo mis conocimientos a otras personas para incentivarlas y empoderarlas a sentirse seguras y hermosas”.
El empoderamiento de las mujeres es algo que también tiene en común con el programa Grameen Promotoras. Al ingresar a Grameen America su hermana le comentó sobre Promotoras.
“Me habló también sobre la posibilidad de ser parte del programa de Grameen Promotoras el cual me ayudaría a mantenerme informada sobre temas de salud y bienestar y que me brindaría guía sobre los recursos médicos y sociales en mi comunidad”.
Jhoanna, con orgullo, también es miembro del Programa de Grameen Promotoras.
“Gracias a los talleres brindados por las promotoras, he aprendido la importancia de cuidar mi cuerpo y mente. Este programa me ha brindado las herramientas necesarias para llevar una vida más equilibrada y saludable, aprendiendo la importancia de cuidarse constantemente, así como también buscar apoyo emocional cuando sea necesario”.
Jhoanna comparte que Grameen Promotoras la han motivado a tomar acciones para mejorar su estilo de vida, poder compartir sus conocimientos con otras personas y promover la salud y bienestar también a su propia familia.
“En este proceso no solo es apoyo médico o social si no también es el tema de apoyo emocional. Ser escuchado es muy importante y este programa ayuda a muchas mujeres a comprender que somos un pilar fundamental en nuestro hogar y que no estamos solas. Que nuestros sueños se pueden cumplir y que podemos reescribir nuestra historia con determinación y éxito”, agrega.
Para Jhoanna compartir esta historia es símbolo de valor, tenacidad, y un ejemplo viviente de que todo es posible cuando se tiene determinación y fe en uno mismo. A pesar de todos los desafíos que enfrentó, nunca perdió de vista sus sueños y siempre se mantuvo enfocada en su objetivo de proporcionar un futuro mejor para sus hijos.
Aunque los hijos de Jhoanna siguen en Ecuador, es por ellos que Jhoanna continúa desafiando las expectativas y demostrando que no hay límites para lo que una persona puede lograr. Cada paso hacia adelante, es un triunfo en honor a ellos. Es así que Jhoanna continúa caminando entre sueños, llevando consigo el mensaje de que, aunque los caminos sean difíciles, el amor y la creencia en uno mismo siempre nos conducirán hacia un futuro lleno de posibilidades.
Walking among dreams, the path to self-belief
She defied expectations and became living proof that anything is possible.
Jhoanna was born in the province of Morona Santiago, Ecuador. She is a mother of 2 children, brave, strong-willed, passionate about life and in love with her homeland. From a young age she has been a warrior. She has been a person who encourages gratitude with attitude, highlighting the positive in all circumstances and committed to everything.
She excelled in her studies, which allowed her to work in the city of Morona as a reporter and editor in the tourism section. Thanks to her work she explored every magical corner of her land. She remembers with emotion and satisfaction having been able to ensure that all the viewers and especially her children lived those experiences of visiting amazing hidden places.
“It is really worth living in such a wonderful land. It is a place to enjoy. I really love my big city.” she expressed.
However, despite her professional success, the pandemic arrived, affecting not only the inhabitants of her city, but also the television channel where she worked. Her program was suspended. Despite this bump in the road, Jhoanna with perseverance managed to work at a radio station programming music and she used this moment in her life to reinvent herself.
“I wanted to do something else, so one day I woke up restless and told my family that I wanted to take a beauty course. I have always been a curious person. I didn't think about it that much, and I joined the world of beauty by taking a nail course,” says Jhoanna.
Little by little, what was previously just curiosity became a passion.
“Honestly, what you do with your hands will always be a work of art,” she adds.
Although Jhoanna immersed herself in this new project, it would not be in Morona where this new work would bear the necessary fruits to cover her household expenses. She, a mother with dreams of giving a good future to her children, looked towards the United States for a better future.
Her heart was divided in two but she kept the light of hope
In December of 2022, Jhoanna made the most difficult decision of her life when she decided to emigrate to the United States, leaving behind her children with her mother and her sisters who would care for them with love and dedication.
She embarked on a journey into the unknown. She brought with her a suitcase full of dreams and hopes and was ready to face any obstacle that stood in her way. She encountered challenges that tested her bravery.
“I crossed rivers, mountains, deserts, there were rainy days, cold days, but this allowed me to discover abilities in myself that I never imagined I had.”
Each experience was one more step towards her self-belief and towards the realization of her dreams. Every step she took, every kilometer she left behind, was a constant reminder of the immense love she felt for her children and the promise she made to herself: to work tirelessly to provide them with a better future.
One day on that journey she was presented with something bigger, something that would change her life. As she arrived in Texas, she fell from a wall approximately 9 meters high, and unexpected news changed her life. According to a doctor, she would never be able to walk again.
However, despite the obstacles and her physical limitations, Jhoanna did not give up.
Soon after her fall and initial surgery in Texas, she traveled to meet her sister and with her support arrived in Danbury, CT. Here, she held on to her determination and began her rehabilitation process, working hard to regain mobility. Each exercise and each therapy was one more step towards her independence and towards the fulfillment of her dreams.
She achieved full recovery of her legs and back and with this she was able to stand and start walking. The doctors and her family were amazed by the great progress in her health.
“The doctors' recommendations were essential, but the support of family is everything, they are part of the driving force of life that inspired me to continue and not give up.”
She is writing a story full of success and happiness in this new chapter of her life.
Seeing her health improved, it was her brothers who encouraged her to resume her passion for nail art.
Her older sister, who has always been a great support at all times, told her about Grameen America as an organization that provides support to entrepreneurial women who need capital to make their dreams come true.
With the goal of starting her own business, Jhoanna decided to bet on herself and became a member of Grameen America. With the microloan they granted her, she bought the necessary implements and was able to continue her training. Jhoanna immersed herself in another fascinating world: the world of eyelashes. The more she learned, the more she discovered the greatness of beauty.
“Through my art, today I highlight the beauty that we all carry within, expanding my knowledge to other people to encourage and empower them to feel confident and beautiful.”
Women's empowerment is something that she also has in common with the Grameen Promotoras program. When she joined Grameen America, her sister told her about Promotoras.
“She told me about the possibility of being part of the Grameen Promotoras program which would help me stay informed about health and well-being issues and would provide me with guidance on medical and social resources in my community.”
Jhoanna is proudly a member of the Grameen Promotoras Program today.
“Thanks to the workshops provided by the promoters, I have learned the importance of taking care of my body and mind. This program has given me the necessary tools to lead a more balanced and healthy life, learning the importance of constantly taking care of yourself, as well as seeking emotional support when necessary.”
Jhoanna shares that Grameen Promotoras have motivated her to take actions to improve her lifestyle, be able to share her knowledge with other people and promote health and well-being also in her own family.
“This process is not only medical or social support but it is also about receiving emotional support. Being heard is very important and this program helps many women understand that we are a fundamental pillar in our home and that we are not alone. That our dreams can be fulfilled and that we can rewrite our history with determination and success,” she adds.
To Jhoanna, sharing this story is a symbol of courage, tenacity, and a living example that anything is possible when you have determination and faith in yourself. Despite all the challenges she faced, she never lost sight of her dreams and she always stayed focused on her goal of providing a better future for her children.
Although Jhoanna's children are still in Ecuador, it is because of them that Jhoanna continues to defy expectations and prove that there are no limits to what a person can achieve. Every step forward is a triumph in honor of them. This is how, Jhoanna continues walking among dreams, carrying with her the message that, although the paths are difficult, love and belief in oneself will always lead us to a future full of possibilities.
